The Shadow
For one generation, Israel got a preview of the kingdom as it was meant to be. The son of David sat on the throne in peace. Wisdom, not war, was the crown's glory: Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom, and all the earth sought his presence to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. A queen traveled from the ends of the earth, saw it with her own eyes, and said the half was not told me. The nations streaming to the son of David to hear wisdom — that is the Old Testament's picture of the world put right.
And then the preview ended. The wisest king taxed his people heavily, multiplied wives who turned his heart, and left a kingdom that split in two under his own son. The glory was real, and it was not enough. Israel had seen what the son of David could be, and watched what every son of David actually was.
The Fulfillment
Jesus drew the comparison Himself. Standing before a generation demanding signs, He said: the queen of the South came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. Everything Solomon previewed, Jesus is without the collapse. Wisdom, not borrowed but embodied — Paul calls Him the wisdom of God, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. A reign of peace that does not end. A King the nations actually stream to. And where Solomon's kingdom split the moment he was gone, this Son of David was given a kingdom of which there will be no end.
Him All Along
The wisdom you keep searching for is not a technique Solomon can teach you; it is a Person who already calls you His. Christ has become for us wisdom from God. The queen traveled the length of the earth for an audience. You have something better than an audience — you are in Him, and the half has still not been told.
