What Does Proverbs 11:21 Mean?

Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.Proverbs 11:21 · NKJV

Quick answer

Numbers do not change the outcome. Collaboration can make wickedness effective for a while, and the verse says it cannot make it safe.

Read both lines

The NKJV footnotes the first phrase as literally hand to hand, an idiom of agreement or alliance, so the picture is people combining. What the verse denies is that the combination alters anything, which is a real comfort when the wrong side looks organized and the right side looks outnumbered. The second line extends the horizon past the individual to descendants, which is characteristic of a book written for people thinking in generations rather than quarters.
