Quick answer

A house goes up by wisdom and stays up by understanding. The saying is about a household rather than masonry, and it names two different jobs.

Three words for wisdom carry three stages, and the sequence is the teaching: wisdom builds, understanding establishes, knowledge fills. Anyone who has watched a family knows those are separate accomplishments and that a household can manage one and fail the next. The building is the easy part.

The saying is deliberately physical. Rooms, walls, contents, and the frank admission that what fills a good house is riches which are precious and pleasant, with no apology attached and no warning bolted on. This book is capable of warning about wealth and does so within a few chapters in both directions, so the absence of a caution here is a choice. Read against the immediately preceding saying it is also an answer: verses 1 and 2 described men whose interiors run on violence, and this one describes what actually produces a house worth living in. The same verbs turn up at 9:1, where Wisdom herself builds a house, which makes the ordinary household a small version of something larger.
